This Home Is Eclectic and Experimental, But Not Quite Maximalist

Olga Khomenko has owned this four-bedroom house for eight years, and shares it with roommates: I have been living in my home since 2015 and the first three years it was truly a house-hacking experience. I remodeled the house to a wonderful living state in 2018.

Because my house is quite an Airbnb hub, last year I started an upgrade and repainting process again to make sure it provides a welcoming, fresh, and colorful experience. I also have backyard chickens and four cats.

I believe my identity is reflected in my color palettes and some of the art and vintage pieces I was able to find. In all, I do not like clutter thus the color of the walls and fresh flowers are are most permanent/constant things in my decor.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: My home style is eclectic experimental and indeed colorful but I am still not quite a maximalist, yet I love colors because they can enhance my life.

What is your favorite room and why? I think it will be the newly repainted and wallpapered bedroom on the second floor. First, because I really like the way the color turned out, I also painted the floor white again with oil paint. And used blue Raphael Sandberg wallpapers. I also love my bright blue living room.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I love my Article chairs. I am thinking of buying more for outdoors because they have amazing colors, are sturdy, and are also outdoor-friendly. I also got a paper roll metal holder from Amazon that I love.
