In-home care 101: How to find resources and programs for seniors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ABC 4)- As seniors age in place, in-home programs and resources can benefit them and improve their quality of life.

To share how seniors can receive these resources and means of support, Stephanie Hecksel from the Area Agency on Aging and Western Michigan (AAAWM) joins Jennifer Feuerstein in studio for an informative “Real Possibilities with AARP Michigan” segment.

When determining your needs or the needs of an aging loved one, Stephanie suggests calling the AAAWM.

“We want this to be easy for people. We have one number for everything,” said Hecksel. “We ask that people call us and be able to explain what’s going on and the situation they’re calling about. That can help us identify information and resources that are applicable to their situation.”

Available resources include:

  • Personalized options: In-home care programs based on need and care level.

  • Community Resources: Meals, transportation, respite and many others.

  • Education: Educational opportunities for dementia, elder abuse, caregivers, healthy aging and more.
