Welcome to Game Changers, a weekly series where we talk about the holy grail beauty products we’re loving now—the ones that saved our hair, cleared our skin, and, in some way, changed our lives.
There are very few products in my arsenal that have been my go-tos for years, or that I give my full seal of approval to. With a vast array of cosmetic possibilities out there just waiting for me to try, I like to change things up, especially when it comes to my face makeup. And while I rarely buy the same foundation or BB cream twice (is it just me, or does the color stop matching your complexion after a while?), there is one holy grail find that I would go to the ends of the earth to get: IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Full Coverage Concealer.
My under-eye circles are, to put it mildly, extremely prominent. They’re genetic, so whether I get a full night’s sleep or not, they don’t budge. If I decide to go out without makeup, I’m no stranger to being asked if I’m feeling ok by an assortment of people. So to prevent the world from thinking I’m perpetually exhausted, I’ve scoured many cosmetic shelves—drugstore and otherwise—to find an under-eye concealer that would cover the dark circles up completely, and stay put the entire day. Most things I’ve demoed, no matter what price point they were, didn’t make the cut. Reading up on the issue, I was frequently told that I needed a color corrector layered under my concealer if I wanted my bags to vanish. But then I tried the aptly named Bye Bye Under Eye, and after blending a few drops of product onto my eye circles, I realized I didn’t need to spend the extra money on multiple treatments—this concealer was enough on its own.
Fast-forward five years and I’m still using this product. Being an editor, I have the opportunity to try many different concealers that claim to do the same thing, but I go out of my way to buy this guy the moment I realize I only have a few drops left. The hyaluronic acid in the formula makes the concealer extremely moisturizing, while collagen and peptides prevent it from settling too deeply into the fine lines under my eyes.
The only issue I ever have with this product is that sometimes it doesn’t match the shade of my foundation or tinted moisturizer. I tend to opt for light coverage with my overall face makeup, but since IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer is full-coverage, it stands out on my face. That’s mostly just due to the nature of my skin issues—my under eyes need heavy-duty coverage, while the rest of my face doesn’t—and I’ve since solved the problem by subduing the formula with translucent setting powder. I typically use e.l.f. High Definition Powder, which does a good job of making the concealer more matte and keeping it in place for the rest of the day.
If you have stubborn under-eye bags that peep through, no matter how many layers of moisturizer, color corrector, or concealer you use, I highly suggest giving the Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer a go. Though $27 is a steep price to be paying for a small amount of concealer that you’re likely to use every day, you’ll save a lot of money on other products you’d otherwise be using to compensate for what other concealers lack—it actually works.
