Hollywood Stars Emphasize the Importance of Sustainable Fashion

Hollywood’s elite arrived at the Environmental Media Association’s awards dressed to impress in a variety of frocks by Chloe, Monique Lhuillier, and Naeem Khan, but that didn’t stop celebs from taking a moment to rave about their favorite eco-friendly designers.

Scandal’s Darby Stanchfield dressed for the evening in a flowy white top and sequined pants ensemble by Chloe. “I didn’t necessarily take the eco-friendly angle into consideration for tonight because I am so in love with Chloe and had to wear it,” she joked. “But in general, eco-friendly clothing is something that I care quite a bit about.” The actress revealed that she is a massive fan of environmentally-friendly designers, such as Alternative Apparel, as they are reasonably priced and use natural dyes and fabrics. “They are also made in the USA so that’s another thing that’s really beautiful about them,” she adds. “I like to bring attention to those kinds of companies.” In addition to wearing attire constructed via sustainable manufacturing techniques, Stanchfield tries to make an effort to keep her clothing allotment in check. “In my personal life, I’m always thinking about ‘how many new clothes do I need?’” she explains. “I tend to go more classic because you can wear it longer and keep it longer. I really like the idea of darning a sweater or relining a coat as opposed to just tossing it.”

Lance Bass

Lance Bass arrived at the EMAs clad in a velvet green ASOS suit jacket, which he artfully paired with his wedding pants, and his husband, Michael Turchin on his arm. “They barely fit right now!” he joked, of the slacks. “They are cutting my circulation off.” Repurposing his wedding attire is just one of the many ways that Bass keeps his wardrobe eco-friendly. “It’s impossible to be perfect but yes, that’s something we always look at when buying clothes. We always want to see the carbon imprint for anything,” he explains.

Malin Akerman

All eyes were on Malin Akerman who flashed her super toned legs in a purple VONE dress. “It just sang a nice tune to me,” she said of her outfit. “I just felt like it is really kind of edgy and sexy and cool. And it’s not black! I always tend to go for black and this is a fall, happy color.” The Billions actress revealed that when she’s not walking green carpets, she loves to wear sustainable threads – whenever she can get work acquiring them into her busy single mom schedule, that is. “[EMA President] Debbie Levin’s daughter has a great line called Alexx Jae & Milk,” she notes. “I have worn some of her stuff before, which is all recycled or made from bamboo. It’s really fun.”

Zoe Lister-Jones

While rocking eco-friendly threads is important to Zoe Lister-Jones, she admits that she’s frustrated by the lack of options, especially in the high fashion realm. “I try to do what I can in that area,” she admits. “It’s just not always easy.”

Garcelle Beauvais

And Garcelle Beauvais, tries to be eco-aware whenever she can. “It’s important for the planet because we can see already the repercussions of how we’ve been living in the past. It’s very important moving forward!” she exclaimed. The actress, who arrived at the EMAs hot off the campaign trail of helping as an official Hillary Clinton surrogate, arrived in Jimmy Choo shoes and a red Theory suit. “Hillary is rubbing off on me,” she exclaimed. “This is definitely a power suit!”
