Hollow Knight: Silksong Might Be Coming Out Soon

Hollow Knight was one of the best metroidvania games ever made, and its sequel, Silksong, is one of the most anticipated games of 2024. It was also one of the most anticipated games of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022… you get the point — we’ve been waiting a while. While we still don’t have official word of a release date, it could be very soon, if recent developments are anything to go by.

Hollow Knight: Silksong now has an Xbox store page, something it hasn’t had up until this point. Pages previously existed for the game on the official Nintendo of America website and the PlayStation website, too, but those have been around for years at this point. The Xbox page is new, and it hides a few more clues.

The biggest of those clues is the classification rating that’s listed on the page. Ratings exist on the North American page, the European page, and the Australian page, suggesting the game has been rated by the ESRB, PEGI, and the ACB, respectively. Curiously, none of those ratings agencies have published ratings for the game, so if we had to guess, we’d say it’s likely it’s been run through the IARC system, which automates classification across a number of regions.

And if Silksong has been rated, that means it’s likely content complete, though there may still be some features left to implement and content left to polish. We could very well be seeing news about the game’s release in the near future — and given there aren’t many big games coming out in the near future, now would be the perfect time for it to drop.

Adding fuel to the fire is Xbox Portfolio Sr. Content Planning Manager Nick Zuclich, who tweeted the new store page out and encouraged fans to wishlist it. It doesn’t confirm an imminent release, of course, but this and the recent backend update to Silksong’s Steam page certainly point to something happening in the near future.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially planned as a DLC expansion for Hollow Knight, but was announced in 2019 to be spun out into its own full-fledged sequel. The game will follow the character Hornet, who played a pretty big role in the first game, who’ll have her own move set, abilities, and world to explore.

It’s currently planned to be released on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
