Hold the phone: J.J. Abrams says he’s DONE with making reboots

J.J. Abrams has become somewhat the ~unofficial~ king of reboots. First, he boldly took Star Trek in a brand new direction, and then, jumped into another galaxy far, far away with Star Wars. And on yeah, he’s also a producer on Westworld. Everything he touches is basically

. But if you’re holding your break for J.J. to jump into another franchise, don’t hold your breath. According to J.J. himself, he is leaving reboots behind.

However, don’t expect J.J. to completely turn his back on movies, television, and other amazing things. He doesn’t want to do any more reboots/reimaginings because he’s ready to tackle some of his own stories.

Talking to People on the red carpet for the Golden Globes, J.J. explained:

“You know, I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten involved in things that I loved when I was a kid. In fact, even Westworld, which we’re here for tonight, is one of them,” he said. “But I don’t feel any desire to do that again. I feel like I’ve done enough of that that I’m more excited about working on things that are original ideas that perhaps one day someone else will have to reboot.”

Abrams also shared some of his philosophy for remaking projects:

“…it’s not uncommon, I think, for stories to be retold — whether it’s at campfire or on film, but I think you always have to be additive. You can’t just be remaking something just for the sake of remaking it.”

We can’t wait to see the fresh, new projects that J.J. Abrams has in store for fans. And, eventually, maybe the reboots of those projects!
