Hoda Kotb

Hoda Kotb has a word of relationship advice for Today viewers.

After Cardi B confessed she had been intimate over the holidays with her estranged husband, rapper Offset, following the couple's separation, Kotb related to the situation, opening up about one of her previous encounters with an ex.

“I have fallen into old habits,” the broadcast journalist admitted to her Today with Hoda & Jenna cohost, Jenna Bush Hager, on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Kotb, who was assumably referring to her former fiancé Joel Schiffman, shared that she “did regret” backsliding, and wished she had “just a little more willpower” when it came to dealing with the past flame.

“After you’ve been with someone for seven years, and you see them, and it’s New Year’s Eve, sometimes if you’ve been broken up for even a month or two or whatever it is... sometimes you forget what it was that was bugging [you]. There are times where you’re like, ‘What was so bad about that?'” she reasoned.

Bush Hager also chimed in on the matter, issuing her own warning to the "Bodak Yellow" rapper while explaining that the holiday season, especially, can come with “traps” that bring “you back to the exes.”

Kotb followed up by agreeing that you've got to be "careful" when these scenarios arise.

Schiffman and the longtime news anchor began dating in 2013, announcing their engagement six years later in 2019. The former pair adopted two daughters, Haley and Hope, before calling off the wedding in Jan. 2022, and going their separate ways. They do, however, successfully coparent, and even wore matching costumes during a family outing on Halloween.

Meanwhile, Cardi B and Offset, who share two children—daughter Kulture and son Wave—were first rumored to be together in 2016, before secretly tying the knot in 2017. The "I Like It" artist first filed for divorce in 2020, but reconciled shortly after.

Last month, the mom of two announced via Instagram that she had been "single for a minute now," but as with letting go of any years-long relationship, it may take some time to officially walk away for good and chart a new path.
