Hoda Kotb Is Engaged to Joel Schiffman: Here’s the Proposal Story

Pop the bubbly! The Today Show’s Hoda Kotb is engaged to boyfriend Joel Schiffman. The anchor announced the news Monday morning, the week of Thanksgiving.

According to Kotb, 55, the entire moment took place during a sweet getaway. “We went to our usual vacation,” she recalled Monday to her co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker and Craig Melvin. “We ended up having a little dinner on the beach and we were done with the dinner, I was eating the churros, licking the bottom of the bowl and he was like I have something else I would like to say, and he said some beautiful things, and then he got down on one knee, and he said would you be my wife and I said yes…I was totally shocked.”

The two are parents to daughters Haley Joy and Hope. “How are we going to explain, your parents are going to get married,” Kotb joked Monday. “We’re still trying to figure out that part of how exactly to explain that to them.”

Kotb first revealed her relationship with Schiffman, 61, a financier, in 2015. “He’s the guy that gives me butterflies at 50 years old,” she said at the time.

“Well, he is, the finest man I’ve ever met,” Hoda told Wendy Williams this year. “He’s just everything.”

It will be Kotb’s second marriage after her first to Burzis Kanga, which lasted from 2005 to 2007.
