History Night & Cruise-In to offer music, antique cars, fun in Livermore Falls
May 20—LIVERMORE FALLS — The History Night and Cruise-In, scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the gazebo area behind the Town Office, plans to give people insight into the history of the area, music, fun and food.
Members of the Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce are organizing the event. Admission is free and there is no charge for antique vehicles to participate, Gerri Orff of the chamber said.
If people want to purchase food or other items at vendors, there is a charge.
There are activities for all ages, Orff said.
"Last year was wonderful," she said, "and the weather was great."
If it rains, the event will be canceled.
In 2023, there were about 70 antique cars parked in the parking lot and along the street. Check-in for the antique vehicles is at 4:30 p.m. Anybody interested is welcome, Orff said.
Several historical societies will be there including Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay. Maine's Paper & Heritage Museum will also be there, she said.
The band Matt & the Barnburners will be performing at the gazebo.
Sam Howes, a chamber member and organizer of the event, will hold a dedication of a granite bench in honor of his great-aunt Cora Labbe who was killed by a train in October 1921 in downtown Livermore Falls. It will be held at about 6:30 p.m.
Some businesses including Pearls in the Pines on Main Street will stay open, Orff said.
Sponsors include Weber/Kimball Insurance Agency, Castonguay Meats, ReGenerate Livermore Falls and Ameriprise Financial.
"It is mostly just a community event to bring everybody together," Orff said.
