The History Behind Princess Eugenie's Wedding Tiara
As an unmarried royal, Princess Eugenie has, until today, never worn a tiara in public (though we wouldn’t be surprised if she’s taken one or two on a test drive around Kensington Palace … ). Her wedding day marks the first time she's donned a sparkling show of royalty, and we’ve been placing our bets on which set of family jewels she’ll choose since her engagement was announced earlier this year.
In a surprising move, Eugenie went against public expectation and wore the Greville tiara, which features emeralds.
Many thought it a near certainty that she’d wear the York tiara, the same piece Sarah Ferguson (her mother) wore to her royal wedding to Prince Andrew in 1986.
Instead, Eugenie wore the Greville tiara, on loan from Queen Elizabeth herself. According to People, the tiara was made by Boucheron for Dame Margaret Helen Greville in 1919, and features six emeralds.
Even putting the glittering headpiece aside, Eugenie looks absolutely radiant on her special day.
