Cattlemen's Steakhouse doesn't have your ordinary origin and subsequent stories.

The popular restaurant in Stockyards City has lived an interesting life, from its ownership changes to the faces that have graced its doorway. The aged steaks, offering of lamb fries and steaming baked potatoes (don't forget the pie) might be bringing in the clientele, but the tale of how it was an ante in a dice game gives this historic steakhouse a unique personality.

In 2022, The Oklahoman's former "Food Dude" wrote about the history of Cattlemen's, its owners through the years and how its beginning is actually a bit of a mystery:

"Cattlemen’s Steakhouse was born Cattlemen’s Cafe in what was then called Packingtown, those are the only clear facts about its origin. Its current address is 1309 S Agnew Ave., but City Business directories at the Oklahoma History Center show it first opened at 1311 S Agnew. Cattlemen’s occupies both addresses these days."

Cattlemen's has always seemed to be more than a place to lay your cowboy hat and rest your weary boots. It's a favorite for birthday celebrations, bringing out-of-town guests and maybe even stargazing.

So who do we know who's eaten at Cattlemen's? Former President George H.W. Bush, actors John Wayne and Sylvester Stallone, Western singer and actor Gene Autry, Ronald Reagan (before he was president), multi-talented singer and actress Reba McEntire, and many more.
