Looking to live like royalty? A historic castle, complete with 10 bedrooms, glorious walled gardens and its very own dungeon, is for sale just outside the village of Auchtermuchty in north Fife, Scotland.

Originally built by John Scrymgeour in 1530, Myres Castle has been described as a "rare jewel" and has a fascinating history that spans hundreds of years. After being completed by John, the castle was passed on to the Moncrieff family before it was purchased by the King's Printer in 1820. In 1870, Myres Castle was sold to James Fairlie, who had been chamberlain to three popes in Rome. It was James who designed one of the gardens in the style of the Vatican.

The present day building is a sprawling home, featuring 10 bathrooms, 10 bedrooms, a brand new rewiring, plumbing and heating system (the property has a state-of-the-art Bio Mass Boiler), and a semi-permanent marquee at the bottom of the garden which is ideal for summer soirees.

The inside space is fit for an aristocrat. Highlights include a well-stocked library, dining room, billiards room, family snug, three kitchens, a wine cellar, dungeon, and a covered training pool heated by the Bio Mass Boiler. If that wasn't enough, there's also a bespoke shepherd's hut, complete with a double bed, kitchen, sitting room with wood burner, shower and WC. Taking a staycation in your own garden just got easier.

"Without a doubt, this is one of the very finest properties I have had the pleasure of marketing," Jamie Macnab, an estate agent from Savills, says.

"With its impeccable historic pedigree, glorious gardens and sensitive modernisation, Myres Castle is first and foremost a wonderful family home but there is also an attractive commercial aspect, if desired, with the cottage and gate lodge and exclusive use venue/events business all offering various income streams. Myres Castle is a rare jewel and is likely to create something of a stir when we launch onto the market."

This property is currently on the market for offers over £3.5 million with Savills.
