‘Historic Hotels of America’ praises two St. Louis hotels for adaptive reuse
ST. LOUIS – A new report from “Historic Hotels of America” praises two St. Louis hotels for adaptive reuse, specifically the ability to revitalize historic buildings with unique lodging experiences.
Historic Hotels of America is an extension of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The entity recently released a list of the Top 25 U.S. Hotels with “Best of Adaptive Reuse.”
The list praises two St. Louis hotels. Those include the St. Louis Union Station Hotel and 21c Museum Hotel.
According to Historic Hotels of America, hotels featured on the list are ones that likely helped save buildings from demolition and offer an immersive experience for visitors.
The list offered these remarks on the two hotels…
Union Station
“St. Louis Union Station Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton is at the center of an award-winning family entertainment destination within the historic Victorian-era train terminal. The hotel’s guestrooms, meeting and event space, and Grand Hall have been fully renovated and expanded. Clock Tower Suites have train-themed décor, and each guestroom door is marked with the name of a railroad ticketing agent whose offices were once in that section of the building.”
Historic Hotels of America also commends the ornate details of Union Station, its celebrations of railroad history and its vibe as entertainment complex with the Aquarium, St. Louis Wheel, mini golf restaurants and more.

21C Museum

Historic Hotels of America explains that the hotel served as a local YMCA building for much of the 20th century, though faced some challenges when the YMCA moved out ahead of the next century. Renovations to the YMCA lap pool and intricate tilework also give the building its charm.
