Hinge Kicked Sam Smith Off Its App Because It Thought They Were a Catfish

"They thought I was a catfish pretending to be me."

Sharon Stone isn't the only celeb having problems in the dating app world. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, crooner Sam Smith explained to host Andy Cohen that they got booted from Hinge because the dating app thought that they were actually a catfish using photos of Sam Smith to trick would-be suitors.

ET Canada reports that Smith was simply following Cohen's advice. Apparently, Cohen had suggested that they try their hand at dating via the internet and, well, it just didn't work out.

"I'm still single. I'm on the frontline with all the single people still and it's been difficult [...] I've gone on all the apps and stuff," they said during a virtual visit to the show. "I took your advice. I joined this dating site called Hinge in the U.K. and they chucked me off of it after one night cause they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me."

Cohen explained that the exact same thing happened to him, showing Hinge and its users that celebs really are like the rest of us — they just need to be verified.

"That same thing has happened to me on dating apps but that’s why I wanted you to join Tinder because I have someone who can get you on there and verify you," Cohen told Smith.

Hinge did apologize, however, and promised to reinstate and verify Smith's (and Cohen's!) profile.
