The Hills of Virginia Will Soon Be Alive with a New Production of ‘The Sound of Music’

Visitors to Virginia’s Wintergreen Resort will soon find themselves transported to the Austrian Alps thanks to a new production of The Sound of Music that will be staged at the resort this fall. Wintergreen is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and to see this production of the musical, audience members will first be invited to take a seat on a ski lift. They will travel over the Virginia landscape, which sets the scene of the site-specific outdoor production. There, a press release describes, the audience “will be greeted by friendly nuns and rowdy von Trapp children all professing that the hills are truly alive with music.”

The production will be brought to life by Brian Clowdus Experiences. It's directed and produced by Brian Clowdus and will star Julie Trammel Key as Maria, Blake Burgess as Captain Von Trapp, and Jayme Alilaw as the Mother Abbess. It will also feature cast members Kristen Scott Bell, Erin Burke, Soren Michael Corbett, Sean Donnelly, Keira Druzgal, Amelia Fe Camacho, Joey Grains, Elizabeth Howard, Harper Jewel, Seth Johnson, Sonia Kamath, Heidi Grace King, Karl Lindevaldsen, Stephanie Melchor, Timothy McFadden, Natalee McReynolds, Parker Nelson, Tim Read, Grayson Reed, Eliza Smith, Dan Stern, Greyson Taylor, Marlene Thacker, Reagan Topper, Reese Topper, Matty Ward, and Bela Ware.

The Sound of Music will run at Wintergreen Resort in Wintergreen, Virginia, from September 5th through the 29th. You can also make a weekend of it: The 11,000-acre resort is home to a host of other activities, and there are suggested itineraries and booking deals (including a Family Adventure Weekend, Couples Weekend, and Group Excursion) available to those who wish to make the trip.
