Hillary Clinton appears to be showing her support for Meghan Markle on social media as the duchess steps back from her senior role in the royal family. The former secretary of state recently posted a quote by Meghan about women's empowerment on her Instagram account.

"Women don't need to find a voice. They have a voice. They need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen," reads the text, which was taken from Meghan's statements during the 2018 Royal Foundation Forum.

In the past, Clinton spoken up for Meghan publicly, and has shared her thoughts about the British media's coverage of the Sussexes.

"To think that some of your—what we would call mainstream—media actually allowed that to be printed in their pages, or amplified, was heartbreaking and wrong," Clinton said in an interview with BBC radio.

"She is an amazing young woman, she has an incredible life story. She has stood up for herself, she has made her own way in the world. And then she falls in love, and he falls in love with her, and everybody should be celebrating that because it is a true love story."

More personally, Clinton also shared that she'd like to give Meghan a hug.

"I feel as a mother I just want to put my arms around her. Oh my God, I want to hug her. I want to tell her to hang in there, don't let those bad guys get you down," Clinton said.

"It is tough what she is going through and I think she deserves a lot better."
