Though this is Younger's final season, Hilary Duff fans can now look forward to a new show. Duff is set to star in How I Met Your Father, a spinoff of the hit show, How I Met Your Mother. The show seems like it will follow a structure similar to its predecessor, with a mother (played by Duff) explaining to her son how she met his father. The series will be produced by the same team that brought viewers How I Met Your Mother, which aired on CBS for nine seasons from 2005-2014.

While we do not have an air date, the upcoming ten-episode comedy will air on Hulu. Keep reading for everything else we know about How I Met Your Father.

Hilary Duff will star as Sophie, the lead character.

The former child star will lead the cast in the spinoff. According to Variety, "In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options."

Sophie appears to be modeled off of Josh Radnor (and Bob Saget’s) Ted Mosby in the original series. Duff, while excited about the opportunity, certainly feels the weight of the role.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that [HIMYM creators] Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby," Duff said. "[HIMYF creators] Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there.”

The spinoff is being crafted by the How I Met Your Mother team.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, who created How I Met Your Mother, will serve as executive producers on the new show. The co-showrunners of the hit series This Is Us, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, are the creators of the new How I Met Your Father. The pair will also be writers and executive producers on the series. Duff, too, will produce in addition to starring.

“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of How I Met Your Father," said Bays and Thomas. "We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. Thanks to all the HIMYM fans out there who waited for it.”

The show will follow a group of characters finding love in New York City.

Similar to How I Met Your Mother, HIMYF will follow a group of single friends finding themselves in Manhattan. It will also be structured as Sophie reflecting back on her past, though this time, the past occurs in 2021. The original series chronicled events set from 2005 to 2013.

“We can’t wait for audiences to meet Sophie and her crew, and watch them come into their own and find love in modern-day New York City," HIMYF creators Aptaker and Berger said.

While there will be many similarities between the new and old shows, Aptaker and Berger joked about a difference in the new series: "We hope nobody thinks it’s weird that Bob Saget will be playing old Hilary Duff’s voice.”

The series will air on Hulu.

The streaming service ordered ten episodes of the spinoff; however, we do not yet have an air date.
