ICYMI: Hilary Duff and husband Matthew Koma have a relationship that dreams are made of (get it?).

The adorable Hollywood couple have been married since 2019, and just recently celebrated their three-year anniversary. The How I Met Your Father actress marked the occasion by sharing the sweetest Instagram post with photos of the couple throughout the years. “Matthew. I love you so much. Happy 3 years! …Our life is so full and I’m over the top grateful for the guy that I got to do all this madness with,” she captioned the series of images.

So, how exactly did this pair end up in a love story for the ages? Well, the Lizzie McGuire alum and record producer first met in 2015—a year after Duff’s split from ex-husband Mike Comrie. They were collaborating on the A Cinderella Story star’s album Breathe In. Breathe Out. (You know, the one that gave us the classic hit “Sparks.”) And sparks were definitely flying in the recording studio, a source close to Hilary told Us Weekly at the time.

Fast forward two daughters (Banks and Mae), one dog, and one backyard wedding later, and it seems like, these days, their ‘ship is picture-perfect.

“When we look at Hilary and Matthew’s compatibility, we can see some bright spots right away,” says intuitive astrologer Rachel Lang. According to Lang, these two were fated to build a home together—among other things.

Lang analyzed both Hilary and Matthew’s birth charts to determine what astrology has in store for them, and let’s just say that while their marriage is “What Dreams Are Made Of,” it could also benefit from just a bit of excitement, if you know what I mean. (“Why Not,” amirite?)

Hilary and Matthew are friends and lovers, thanks to their Sun signs.

Hilary’s Libra Sun is in a favorable trine aspect with Matthew’s Gemini Sun, explains Lang. ICYDK, both Libra and Gemini are air signs, and air signs are known for being carefree, intellectual, and social. Meaning, this is “a good match for two people who need enough space to maintain their friendships and social lives while also being connected in a relationship where they can bounce ideas off each other and share common interests,” Lang notes.

In other words, these two totally complement each other. It’s clear that friendship is a basis for the relationship, Lang adds. And having friendship as a foundation of their ‘ship is great for allowing them to bounce back when things get, uh, a bit heated, thanks to their fiery Moon signs, which rule their emotions.

Hilary has a Sagittarius Moon, while Matthew has a Leo Moon, says Lang. As fire signs, this pair doesn’t let arguments linger—they want to move through those feelings as quickly as possible—but they may blow up when expressing their emotions, she says. (Ahem, fire signs are quite the passionate bunch.)

But, Mars brings some trouble to the bedroom department.

Listen, in this ‘ship, romance is definitely alive and well. Hilary and Matthew’s connection is sweet and heartfelt, yet doesn’t lack passion, says Lang. This is due to Hilary’s Mars, the planet of action and desire, in Virgo being in a favorable trine aspect with Matthew’s Venus, the planet of love and relationships, in Taurus. Translation: They have a lot of chemistry, Lang says.

Nevertheless, with Matthew’s Mars in Cancer opposite Hilary’s Neptune, the planet of ideals and spirituality, in Capricorn, this pair may need to make more time for sex, says Lang. “It’s a spiritual [and] intellectual connection, but grounding it in physical affection is important to keeping that spark alive,” she explains. Well, that’s nothing scheduling some ~steamy~ play dates and investing in a few toys can’t fix (wink-wink).

Nevertheless, they were destined to build a home together, thanks to Saturn.

“Kids give the couple a sense of purpose, and they were fated to have them!” says Lang.

Hilary’s Moon, which is the astrological point related to family and motherhood, is in a tight conjunction with Matthew’s Saturn in Sagittarius, the planet of tradition, commitment, and responsibility, she explains. “This conjunction gives the relationship a strong foundation to build a stable family life. There’s a sense of loyalty [displayed] here,” Lang notes. “It shows a couple who can make a home together.”

Not to mention, Hilary’s Jupiter in Aries, the planet of fortune and expansion, sits on Matthew’s fourth house of home and family, and his Venus sits on hers. “These two planets tend to shine a favorable light, indicating abundance,” says Lang. “Their combined creative energy helps them attract good things into their lives.” In other words, it’s written in the stars that this pair will always have a happy and healthy home. (Love that for them!)
