Hilary Duff’s Makeup Artist Shares Her Go-To Concealer for Pregnancy Pimples

On Thursday, a little over six months after giving birth to her second child — her first with musician Matthew Koma — Hilary Duff got engaged to Koma. And just like she let fans into her life by sharing a photo of the happy occasion, Duff often posts photos of baby Banks, and she frequently shared photos of herself during her pregnancy, in which she always looked beyond glowing and blessed with flawless skin. And now, thanks to her makeup artist, we know how she got through those nine months seemingly blemish-free: a great concealer.

In a new interview with Refinery29, makeup artist Denise Madrigal shared an inside look at products she regularly uses on Duff, including one that made her complexion appear immune to the hormonal changes that come with pregnancy. "Hilary had a few flare-ups on her face when she was pregnant, but nothing major," Madrigal said. "In those cases, I just layered a little more concealer where I needed to." And which one was it? Tarte's Creaseless Concealer.

Madrigal says she's "obsessed with" the full-coverage, vegan concealer, which has won both an Allure Best of Beauty award and a Readers' Choice award. Although it clearly performs well as a way to cover breakouts, it also promises to "completely cover dark circles, hyperpigmentation, and redness," without creasing or settling into fine lines. The waterproof formula even works to improve the skin it's concealing with Tarte's beloved maracuja, which serves as a source of vitamin C.

This isn't the only Tarte product in Duff's makeup routine. "As far as blush goes, I love using Tarte on Hilary," Madrigal says, referring to the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush. "Honestly all the shades look good on her — sometimes we mix it up."

And just like her go-to blush, many of her other must-have makeup products are classics that have been around for what feels like forever, like Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation, Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo, and Stila Liquid Eye Shadow.
