Makeup can get really complicated, but it shouldn't have to be. Doing a full face of contouring and highlighting just isn’t for everyone; in fact, I was just talking to a friend about how we simply cannot contour our own face, and that’s okay. It’s not for us, but if you’re skilled in the makeup department, like one of my best friend’s who's basically a pro, I say go all out! It’s fun, and it’s a form of expression, but for my everyday look, I prefer something much more low-key, like Hilary Duff’s routine, which she just spilled on Instagram last week.

Duff is truly the queen of relatability — she’s such a joy to follow on Instagram because she actually shows that #starsarejustlikeus. Not to mention, I’ve been following her since her Lizzie McGuire days, so she holds a special place in my heart. So, imagine my excitement when I learned Duff is also a fan of this easygoing, no-makeup makeup brand Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, and I are fans of, too. Plus, Duff is a mom, and TBH, moms know the best beauty secrets, as they're typically in a pinch for time, so they simply can’t waste any second on fussy makeup. This brand was made for that.

The actress spilled her nine-step makeup routine, which solely included products from Merit, the internet-famous brand you’ve definitely seen all over your TikTok and Instagram feeds. The label is all about a minimalist, less-is-more approach, with its highly curated assortment of skincare and makeup essentials following this ethos. No wonder Hollywood moms love it, with standout products in Duff’s lineup being the SJP-used Great Skin Glow Serum, a lightweight, ultra-hydrating essential packed with niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and Japanese goldthread root, that all work together to brighten, plump, moisturizer, and, as shoppers wrote, “makes [you] look younger.” I’m sold.

Duff also reached for the brand’s game-changing complexion stick, dubbed The Minimalist, which offers quick, easy, all-over coverage without the cakiness or the hassle. As the brand puts it, it’s not a concealer nor a foundation, but it does both jobs in one, as it offers lightweight, breathable coverage that doesn’t budge. Best of all? It’s buildable, hydrating, and, as Diaz explained in a past Instagram video, works wonders on redness. I can attest to its redness-reducing powers; plus, it basically erases under-eye darkness in a few swell swoops. My skin looks airbrushed and perfectly glowy.

With so many celebs using Merit’s game-changing, easygoing beauty bag essentials, you can rest assured everything is worth it. Not to mention, the prices are actually exceptional for the quality.
