Highland Cows' Reactions to Getting Apple Treats Are Enough to Make Anyone Smile

Ever since I was a child, I loved spotting cows and other animals from my cozy spot in the car. Every sighting was worth pointing out, but my favorite thing was when a cow would look up from the grass to glance at the car, chewing their cud all the while. Eventually, my family and friends started pointing out cows too!

Despite spotting thousands of cows and roadside farms throughout my life, I've never seen a highland cow in person. These long-haired cows are rarer than other breeds of cattle, but they're becoming more and more popular online thanks to their adorable looks and easygoing temperament. That's why Canadian farmsteader and mom of 3, Brooke has her very own herd of Scottish highland cows!

She gave her Instagram followers a sneak peek at the cattle and their favorite early fall treats (apples) on September 8, and people are clearly obsessed. It's hard not to love these excited cows or the silly way they run!

Isn't this precious? Brooke has shared plenty of adorable moments with her herd of cows, and she posts them all on her Instagram account, @brookevanderkley, for all to see. Needless to say, this mom and her fluffy cows are making lots of people smile!

"Highland cows are so freaking cute," wrote viewer @itsjordwalk. You're telling me! I'd give almost anything to be in Brooke's shoes while she's feeding the cows, especially because of how excited the animals are to see her. Whether or not they associate her with treats, they definitely know it'll be a good time with her around.

This long-haired cattle breed is known for being easygoing and gentle with people, though it's always important to remember how large they can be. Adult male highland cows can grow over 1800 pounds at their largest, and that's definitely not something you'd want to mess with. Fortunately, you shouldn't ever have to! From small farms across the U.S. and Canada to the famous highland herds in Inverness, there's so much to appreciate about this gorgeous cow breed.
