This High-Tech Fridge Will Keep Your Food Fresh Longer
Not all items in your fridge are meant to be stored at the same temperature. Fisher & Paykel, a New Zealand-based company, created the Integrated Column Refrigerator and Freezer, equipped with special technology that allows you to control and adjust the temperature of different storage areas. The Variable Temperature Zone technology has different modes designed to meet each food's temperature needs.
Pantry Mode, according to the website, is designed for foods that should be stored in a cool, dark place. You may store your tomatoes, bananas, avocados, fresh herbs, and tropical fruits in this mode (between 52 and 56 degrees Fahrenheit), which allows these foods to "ripen at the perfect rate." Fridge Mode is for your everyday items, including fruit and veggies, dairy products, meats, and drinks (at 32 to 44 degrees).
Items in Chill Mode are exposed to a temperature as close to freezing as possible (29 to 32 degrees), in order to retain freshness. Chill Mode is ideal for items such as highly perishable seafood and meats. Also, you can store alcohol in Chill Mode, which will ensure it's at a perfect temperature for serving guests when you're entertaining.
Fisher & Paykel's ActiveSmart Foodcare technology helps keep food fresher for longer, Dwell notes. Shane Rehm, vice president of product at Fisher & Paykel, told the outlet that the fridge has sensors and softwares to detect the kitchen environment and how often the fridge door is opened. "So if you go away on holiday or simply overnight, it detects that the product is not being used and readjusts optimization," she said.
The technology also adapts to the fridge's daily use, which allows it to automatically adjust its own settings, including temperature, airflow, and humidity. Dwell points out that since the system is designed to only cool and defrost as necessary, the fridge can also help reduce overall energy consumption.
The Integrated Column Refrigerator is as sleek on the outside as it is inside. The models fit flush, and have no visible hinges or grilles, so the fridge can easily blend in with your cabinetry. You can customize your fridge by choosing a door finish, handle style, and what color interior you'd like.
