High School Student Uses "Grey's Anatomy" to Send Hidden Message in Senior Quote

We stan a "Grey's Anatomy"-watching legend.

Only true Grey's Anatomy fans would have gotten this. Over the weekend, Albuquerque high school senior Krysta Montoya went viral after she decoded her senior quote for the Internet. Instead of a conventional quote, she had gone with "Grey's Anatomy Season 5, Episode 6, 39:40." But apparently, not a lot of people at her school watch the ABC show, because they kept asking her what it meant. So she took to her Twitter with a quick explainer. "Just because everyone keeps asking me what my quote is. Here ya go," she wrote, uploading a photo of her yearbook entry and a screenshot of the exact spot in Grey's Anatomy season 5 episode 6 when Erica Hahn says, "I am so, so, so gay."

Ingenious, no? Although this started off as a way to clue in her classmates, her tweet was so iconic that by Thursday, she'd gotten almost 37,000 comments and 143,000 likes. "Grey's Anatomy is probably one of my favorite shows and has made me feel a roller coaster of emotions," she told Insider of the choice.

"I was just watching Grey's Anatomy one day and I saw that quote and I wanted to make it my senior quote," Krysta added. She told the outlet that she's been out since she was a freshman, and wanted to end her high school career with a quote that was important to her. "I chose this as my quote because I feel some people do not accept who I am," she said. "I just wanted to basically make a bold statement. I've lost some friends over my sexuality, but my family has always supported me."

Krysta also chose the quote to send a message to everyone who invalidated her sexual identity. "I feel as if some people did not believe me," she told BuzzFeed. "In fact, throughout high school, people said by senior year I’d be dating a boy. So I think I did this to make a bold statement towards that comment from some of my peers."

We, and surely the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, stan.
