A High School in Round Rock, Texas Is Offering an "Adulting 101" Class

The "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" poster you have proudly framed in your guest bathroom may ring true always and forever, but at some point, everyone has to embrace the whole grown-ups thing.

Opening a bank account. Cooking dinner. Creating a résumé. As remiss as we are to trade in Crayolas for chaos, indeed there will be time to learn it all. There will be time, there will be time.

While the previous sentences' T.S. Eliot's reference learned in the hallowed halls of my own upper school admittedly doesn't serve me in my everyday life, learning how to cook dinner or manage my money responsibly would have. To that point, Round Rock Independent School District in Texas has introduced an "Adulting 101" class to make the transition to adulthood easier.

As KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas, originally shared, Cedar Ridge High School's program covers basics like cooking a healthy meal, creating your résumé, job interview tips, and basic money management skills.

"We're teaching them basic skills on how to survive. Not really high-end culinary stuff, but just when they graduate, [they'll know] how are they going to feed themselves," Ralph Chavez, who is a chef who teaches classes to the students, told KENS 5.

After learning in the teaching kitchen with Chavez, we're guessing there won't be too much ramen on the menus of these teens' homes.

Still, like the fabled bathroom poster dictates, I Don't Wanna Grow Up.
