Video shows high school principal getting knocked to the floor as she tries to break up student brawl

A high school principal is seen getting knocked to the floor as she tries to break up a brawl between students in a video that’s gaining steam online.

Cell phone footage of the incident shows Dhedra Lassiter, who is the principal at Rolesville High School in Rolesville, North Carolina, jumping in to break up fighting students, before she topples over.

While viewers on social media may have panicked for the principal, parents of students at the school were not surprised.

One mother, Jennifer Jackson, told Raleigh, North Carolina, news station WTVD-TV that Lassiter’s actions didn’t surprise her “one bit.”

“I mean that’s who she is. She’s there for those kids day one. I mean and to protect her students, to protect her staff,” Jackson said.

Lassiter, who has been at the high school for three years and is credited with turning the institution around for the better, quickly sent parents an email after she realized the video of the fight was online.

WTVD-TV reported that she informed parents that the video appeared worse than the fight actually was and no one, including a school resource officer who was also knocked to the floor, was injured.

“She communicates with the students. She’s very frank and honest with them,” Jackson said. “And she’s like, ‘Guys this is our school and you know we’ve got to do better. And if you have problems please communicate with us. That’s what we’re here for. If you hear anything please come to us.’ You know, again, communication is key and she’s been dead on with that since day one.”

Two juveniles involved in the fight were charged with simple affray, according to WTVD-TV. Another person was charged with simple affray and disorderly conduct.
