High School Cross Country Teams Runs with Shelter Dogs to Find Them Forever Homes

The kids have helped over 100 dogs gets adopted.

For the last 6 years, the cross country team at George Steinbrenner High School in Lutz, Florida has partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. They take adoptable dogs on their training runs to bring attention to the dogs and give them some much needed exercise. The team is known as The Boss Cross, and it's so inspiring to see how much they care for these dogs and finding them forever homes.

ABC News posted a video that shows how these awesome kids are making a difference for themselves, their teammates and some very deserving adoptable pups.

How sweet and kind are these kids? Sophomore Jacob was quoted in the video as saying, "They're the perfect workout partners. I think it really teaches, um, responsibility and I mean it helps them out too. Helps us."

The team is made up of 25-30 high school students, and during the summer, they will usually have 20 volunteers from the team partake in the collaboration. When the boys leave for their varsity week-long training camp, Boss Cross alumni will step in and take over the effort.

"The team understands the importance to the dogs but also to the community at large. Their families or neighbors might adopt any of these dogs," Hatchell commented.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay posted this sweet tribute when the program first began.

Let's hope their efforts find all the dogs forever homes, and way to go, kids!
