High-Altitude Colorado Ski Area Reporting First Snowfall Of The Season

Coloradans, it's happening. Today, September 11th, Arapahoe Basin reported its first snowfall of the 2023-2024 ski season.

As is often the case with early-season snowfall, there's not much to work with here. Still, I'll take it. Any snow is good snow.

Later summer/early fall storms are like ski movies -- they're little teasers that remind us mountain-inclined folk that winter, indeed, is on the way.

While I wish that this dusting of snow was some kind of sign -- an indicator of good things to come at A-Basin -- it likely has no bearing on how the Coloradan resort's season will pan out. Even with advanced meteorological tools, accurately calling any snow year this far in advance is incredibly tricky.

Last season, despite all the hoopla in California and Utah, A-Basin clocked a below-average year, coming in at roughly 79% of average seasonal snowfall.

However, thanks to the resort's altitude and dedicated mountain ops team, they remained open into June, offering an impressive 225 days of skiing and riding during the 2023 and 2024 winter season.

So, regardless of how much it snows at A-Basin, planning for an extended operating season at this Coloradan resort is a relatively safe bet. It would be sure as heck a lot more fun if most of those days were powder days, though.

Think snow!
