It's important to have honesty and transparency in your relationship or family. However, if you're sharing your Amazon account with anyone who you'd, say, buy a Christmas gift or birthday present for, the surprise might be ruined before you even get the chance to wrap the gift.

This is because recently purchased items show up on your Amazon homepage under the "Buy It Again" header. Amazon may also recommend deals or related products based on items you've bought, saved in a Wish List, or merely viewed!

Knowing how to hide Amazon orders and clear your search history is crucial if you share your account with someone and you want to prevent the algorithm from spoiling their surprise. While you can't delete your order history for good, you can use these workarounds instead.

How to hide an Amazon order

To hide an Amazon order, you'll need to archive it. Here's how:

  1. From the homepage of Amazon.com, click on the "Returns & Orders" section in the top toolbar.

  2. All orders from the last 3 months should appear here, but you can use the drop-down to search orders from the past year or more. When you find the item you'd like to hide, click "Archive order" underneath it.

Note that this order will still appear in the Archived Orders page in your account. However, this now prevents the items in this order from popping up on your homepage and in on-site recommendations.

How to remove items from your Amazon search history

Simply searching for an item, even if you haven't bought it, can potentially cause the product to show up on the homepage when you don't want it to. Luckily, clearing your Amazon browsing history is easy:

  1. From the Amazon homepage, hover over "Account & Lists" in the top toolbar, then select "Browsing History"in the drop-down menu below.

  2. Select the "Remove from view" button under any item you'd like to remove from your browsing history.

  3. To clear your entire browsing history, click "Manage history" on the right-hand side of the screen. Select "Remove all items from view" to delete your entire browsing history on Amazon.

  4. From here, you can also toggle the "Turn on/off browsing history" button to the unhighlighted "off" position if you'd prefer not to have any of your Amazon browsing history saved in the future.

How to start an Amazon Household account

While you can archive up to 500 orders, it may be more convenient to start an Amazon Household account if you share a Prime account with other people. Doing this will allow up to two adults, four teens, and four children to share (age-appropriate) Prime benefits while keeping your purchase history separate from everyone else's homepage view.

  1. From the Amazon homepage, hover over "Account & Lists" in the top toolbar, then select "Your Account" in the drop-down menu below.

  2. Under the "Shopping programs and rentals" column, select "Amazon Household"

  3. Depending on the needs of your household, you can select "Add Adult," "Add a Teen," or "Add a Child" to share your Prime account access. Follow the on-screen instructions to either start or link an existing account for each.
