All out of storage space on your iPhone and not sure how many more apps you can possibly delete to rectify the situation? The good news is the answer in this case may be none. One of the most common sources of storage depletion is actually your photo app. And one of the fastest ways to gain back storage space is by changing a few settings that are most responsible for depleting your storage space. Start by using this hidden photo feature to save so much storage on your iPhone.

Reduce the size of photos

Reducing the size of photos by changing certain photo features is one of the fastest and most effective ways to help save storage, according to Tech Expert Peter Zendzian, the president of ZZ Servers. “One way to do this is to lower the resolution of the photo or change the format to a more compressed one like JPEG,” Zendzian says. “You can also disable the ‘Live Photos’ feature, which captures a few seconds of video with each photo and takes up more space.”

To do this, Anthony Robinson at Skies & Scopes advises going into Settings > Camera > Formats and then changing ProRaw resolution from 48 MP to 12 MP. “This then reduces your average photo size from 75 megabytes to 25 megabytes,” Robinson says. “48MP is unnecessarily big unless you are going to print and blow up the image to a very large size. There may be times when you want this, but in general, it is just going to eat up your storage.”

Other Storage-Saving Tips

Remove unneeded photographs

Another approach to minimize storage space is to eliminate any superfluous images, advises Andy Flynn, vice president of SpryLyfe. “These can contain hazy photographs, duplicates, or photos that are no longer relevant or important,” he says. Getting rid of photos and videos you know aren’t the best quality frees up room for the ones you do want to keep.

Backup to the cloud

Putting your images on the cloud, such as Google Photos or iCloud, can also assist reduce storage space on your device, Flynn recommends. “This allows you to access your images from anywhere, and you can choose to store only the most important or often accessed photos on your smartphone,” he says.

Employ storage optimization features

Several devices and apps offer storage efficiency capabilities, such as automatically removing outdated images or compressing huge files. This allows you to save space without manually deleting or compressing photographs, Flynn notes.

“Changing or modifying these photo attributes can conserve storage space by decreasing the amount of data necessary to save each image,” Flynn says. “This is vital for devices with limited storage space, such as smartphones and tablets. By organizing your images and modifying these settings, you can ensure that your crucial files and applications have sufficient storage space.”
