HGTV Star Lands in Hot Water After Completely Demolishing a House

From House Beautiful

A bright orange citation was the latest addition to Alison Victoria's Chicago remodel. The star of HGTV's Kitchen Crashers found the notice at her construction site earlier this week after her renovation turned into a full demolition. The city's response? "[Further work on the home] shall be prosecuted to the full extent of the law." Yikes.

Victoria, who is a co-owner of the home, could face up to $5,000 in fines for each additional offense, as the city views the construction to be "work contrary to permit." The city building inspector assigned to the case, William Davis Jr., spoke with the homeowner and architect about the matter. "They both know what procedures are needed at this point," Davis wrote in an email to DNA Info. "Please contact them for any further information, as I do not want to reveal anything that may [be] of a sensitive or harmful matter."

This was the home before work started:

And this was the home last week:

According to records, the permit that was issued was to "deconvert existing 2 flat to a single-family residence and erect a new two-story bay window and second floor addition per plans." Davis cites their two violations as failure to acquire a permit for demolition and doing work not in conformity with the terms of the permit.

The homeowners say the demolition wasn't planned and only took place after certain areas of the home started to crumble. The permit plans have since been updated to show the extra amount of work that needs to be done and the team hopes to have a revised permit soon. DNA Info reached out for comment, but Victoria has yet to respond. In the meantime, might we suggest an HGTV marathon to pass the time?
