HGTV Fans Rally Around Ty Pennington After He Shares Scary Health News From Hospital
HGTV star Ty Pennington was all smiles when he walked the red carpet for the premiere of the Barbie movie. Just days later, the 58-year-old found himself in the ICU. He took to Instagram to explain the situation to his fans. Even in the midst of a serious health situation, Ty's trademark sense of humor shined through.
Ty shared a series of photos, including two from his Denver hospital bed. He wrote a lengthy caption to explain the situation: "From the red carpet, to the ICU… this last week has been interesting! I’m okay now, still recovering but I felt it looked weird that I hadn’t posted about my teams #BOTB VICTORY!! 🙌🏼 SO freaking proud of @smashingdiy & @iamstevelewis!! Will post about that next 🤓🥳"
He continued to explain what happened in detail, "To shed some light on why I was MIA… Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckinridge and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe 😰Turns out, that sore throat Ive had for the last month was actually an abscess which had grown so large it was closing off my airway. Next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver. Wednesday I had surgery and yesterday afternoon I was released from the ICU 🙌🏼."
Ty went on to thank the hospital staff and to give a reminder to his fans, "A great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it’s telling you something 😳😅 #justhappytobehere.
He then pokes fun at his fourth picture in the post, which shows his difficult-to-read handwriting. It seems to say, "I need to talk to Michael about the problem. I need to put on Speedo." Ty wrote in his post, "Even through heavy sedatives it’s good to see I was still in the right frame of mind… (pic 4)😂 #speedosforlife"
The HGTV star's fans rushed to the comments section to express their concerns and leave prayers. His friends from HGTV left their messages too.
Jasmine Roth wrote, "Oh my goodness Ty! So glad you’re ok. Sheeeeeesh!" Taniya Nayak commented, "We love you. So happy you are ok! Missed you in Breck but we are so happy you got the care you needed just in time. We all were (and still are) thinking of you and sending the most positive vibes! Speedy recovery brother ❤️" Page Turner said, "Ughhhhh and Yayyyyy.. Thanking God for a good ole speedo save & for continued health Ty!!"
After wrapping up Battle on the Beach last week with a victory, Ty is lined up to appear on the new Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge that begins on HGTV on July 16. We're sending along our wishes for a speedy recovery from this scary situation.
