It’s official: 2023 is the year of Barbie!

Ever since the upcoming Barbie movie was announced, folks everywhere have been embracing their love of the iconic Mattel doll and the hot pink hue that she’s synonymous with. Thus, Barbiecore was born. And now, HGTV is joining in on the pink party.

Enter: the Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge.

“One of the world’s most iconic toys will become reality when HGTV taps into the zeitgeist of Mattel’s Barbie® in its new competition series, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, set to premiere on HGTV and stream on Max this summer,” the press release reads.

The show, which will be hosted by supermodel, author, and entrepreneur Ashley Graham, will follow eight 2-person teams as they work to transform a Southern California home into a real-life Barbie Dreamhouse. The caveat? The teams will be made up of 16 HGTV home design and renovation experts: Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson (Married to Real Estate); Jasmine Roth (Help! I Wrecked My House) and Antonia Lofaso (Beachside Brawl); Ty Pennington (Rock the Block) and Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab); Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin (Farmhouse Fixer); Christina Hall and James Bender (Christina on the Coast); Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas (Bargain Block); Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt (100 Day Dream Home); and Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle Williams (Luxe for Less). World-famous designer, Jonathan Adler, and HGTV host and interior designer, Tiffany Brooks, are tasked with the impossible job of judging the competition. Along with these HGTV regulars, the series will include special appearances from celebrities including some of the Barbie movie cast, some of whom will serve as guest judges!

While all of the teams will be working within the same house, each will have a different task to create era-specific rooms, “such as an early 1960s atomic age kitchen, a ‘70s disco vibe for Ken’s Den, and a main bedroom decked out in ‘80s glam,” the release states. The house is sure to include plenty of whimsy including a hat carousel, a light-up dance floor and an aquarium.

Best of all, one Barbie lover will have the chance to win a stay at the Barbie Dreamhouse.

HGTV teased the new series on Instagram, and fans did not hold back their thoughts. They left comments like, "I am curious what the NEIGHBORS think though... obviously there is no HOA in that neighborhood" and "No no nooooooo... I'd hate to be the neighbors directly across the street." Others are excited about the show and left supportive messages like, "Yayyyyyy some of my favorite people!!!!!!" and "This is so iconic!"

The four-part event series will premiere on Saturday, July 16, at 8 p.m. ET. The 90-minute premiere will follow the cast as they get their bearings at the Mattel headquarters. Next, they'll kick off the competition by redesigning the entryway, living room, and dining room of the mansion while attempting to make the Barbie Dreamhouse a reality. The first episode includes an appearance from Kitty Black Perkins, who is known for designing the first Black Barbie. The series will be available to watch or stream same-day through HGTV and Max. Suffice to say, we know what we’ll be watching leading up to the Barbie movie premiere on July 21, 2023.
