Hey, Miss Carter! Blue Ivy Just Graced the ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Charts for the First Time
It should probably come as no surprise given her superstar parents…but we're still in awe of Blue Ivy Carter's momentous achievement. (7-year-olds these days, amirite?)
The daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z just scored her first Billboard Hot 100 song, and we sense this is the beginning of a beautiful artistic…
The song, “Brown Skin Girl," is from Beyoncé's compilation album The Lion King: The Gift that was released on July 19 in celebration of the Disney movie, in which Beyoncé voices the lioness Nala. Queen Bey's daughter, Blue Ivy, is officially listed on the track (she's also been unofficially featured on previous tracks from her parents, like "Glory" and "Daddy Lessons").
The collection includes confidence boosters like “Bigger” (definitely listen to this before you hit the town) and awesome collaborations featuring Jay-Z, Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar, but Blue Ivy's appearance on the album is a fan favorite.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter harmonizes with her mom, Saint Jhn and Wizkid in the catchy and empowering tune, and even drops a little solo at the close of the song, proving she definitely has her parents’ beautiful vocal genes. Did we mention Beyoncé gives Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Rowland shout-outs in the song?
The track debuted at No. 76, with the album itself debuting at No. 2 (as of July 25).
Blue Ivy also made a major cameo in the music video for another track from the same album, called "Spirit." In the aesthetically jaw-dropping video, the 7-year-old is seen between shots of sweeping, spectacular shots (some of the Grand Canyon) of Queen Bey with a bevy of backup dancers in a multitude of colorful outfits.
Little lady Blue Ivy poses solo with curly red hair and a lavender outfit that matches perfectly with her mom Beyoncé's lilac and red gown. As Blue Ivy walks up to her mom, she places her hand in Beyoncé's palm, then kneels next to her before taking a long, hard gaze into the camera.
Sorry, Queen Bey. We're bowing down to the princess now.
