Hesperia Community Farmers Markets thrives in summer: Dining Around

A spectacular preview of Summer 2024 came to the High Desert recently, with temperatures in the low 80s and no wind to interrupt the sunshine.

Hesperia Community Farmers Market at Civic Plaza Park was set up with the goal of recharging loyal customers’ farmers market batteries ─ a supercar show, petting zoo, DJ playing appropriate tunes, a face-painting booth for the kids, and approximately 70 vendors.

We met a brand new vendor and a two-year veteran. Each offers tasty edibles, friendly service and more.

Margarita’s Tacos

The newest vendor’s banner did not arrive in time for their first day, so the ladies of Margarita’s Tacos made friends and fans in record time with their cheery invitations to sample their tasty fare.

With generous samples and friendly service, customers were drawn to the counter.

Margarita Rodriguez and her daughter Selene are an effective team. That first day, Margarita worked the grill and Selene offered samples, served drinks and suggested toppings to try. She also answered questions.

The menu is diverse with street tacos, individual or a plate of four; tortas ahogadas ─ a Guadalajara specialty also known as the “drowned sandwich;” and deep fried potatoes.

Margarita is known for her delicious street tacos, which absolutely delicious and perfect for eating while wandering around the market and looking at assorted items under the colorful canopies. And this is why they decided to go into business

Their neighbor and friend Maria Magama assists in the “kitchen,” and the team works like a “well-oiled machine.”

Everything is made fresh.

Tacos are available in three flavors ─ steak, pastor and chicken ─ on flour or corn tortillas.

Individual tacos, which you “dress” yourself with salsa, crispy vegetables, cilantro and more, are $2.50 each, or you can select the “meal” promo plate, which is four street tacos with rice, beans and soda or water for $10.

Specialty drinks, Horchata and Agua de Jamaica (iced Hibiscus tea), are refreshing and compliment anything you order.

Part of the fun of being a “foodie” is trying out new things, and experimentation means discovering exciting new flavor profiles. Talk to the ladies about customizing your food orders,

Margarita’s Tacos are on Instagram. They are available to cater parties, festivals, and private events. They love to help non-profits and sports teams with fundraising. Call 909-993-4042.

Roll Me Up Cinnamon Rolls

Amber Bobo loves cinnamon rolls and has been a vendor at several High Desert farmers markets for about two years.

Besides the markets in Hesperia and Helendale, she sets up her canopy at car shows and other events. Her slogan reads, “Not Your Average Cinnamon Roll,” and the menu below proves her point.

Her recipes are the results of a decade of experimentation, and the rolls she makes for hungry customers range from the “Original Roll” with cream cheese frosting for $7 to her newest creation, the “Morning Melt,” which is a cinnamon roll with egg, bacon or sausage, and American cheese for $10.

Additional rolls on her menu sell for $8 each. They are the fresh Strawberry Roll, Candy Bar Roll (your choice of Snickers or Reese’s) with fresh peanuts as well as caramel and chocolate drizzle’ Chocolate Brownie Roll, a chocolate fudge brownie and chocolate fudge; and the Caramel or Chocolate Drizzle Roll.

As we said above, none of these options are your average cinnamon roll.

Send a message Amber on Instagram ─ @roll.me.up ─ and look at the photos of her presence at various events. Seasonal items are always fun, and there are pictures of those as well.

Everything is fresh and made to order. Even if you’re just a “naked cinnamon fan” heated up with plenty of butter, Amber can accommodate you.

Catering is another of Amber’s skills; she requires a minimum of 48 hours’ advanced notice to make certain your order can be completed in time.

Free delivery is available for a minimum order of six items, and special orders are also do-able. Toppings are unlimited ─ Amber offers berry cobbler, apple pie as well as other candy bar flavors ─ and these rolls are easy to customize, too.
