  • An uncle recently turned to Reddit to see if he was in the wrong for leaving his niece's wedding early.

  • He and the other guests were stuck there with no food or drinks, while the bride and her friends were more than an hour late.

  • The reason for the delay? She decided to stop at a liquor store and drink before the party.

Look, we get it. In our modern age, wedding etiquette can be a complicated thing. How many rules can a bride have for her wedding before she's considered a "bridezilla"? Should a smaller wedding mean fewer gifts? And can you take back a gift if the bride revokes your invitation to the wedding?

Naturally, the presence of alcohol makes it all the more complicated. Everybody has a different tolerance for booze-related antics at weddings.

So, the question becomes: can wedding drinking on the part of the bride and groom ever be so bad that a guest should bail and take their gift with them? Before you say yes or no, let's get into the details of this one:

hapless husband and upset bride

An uncle recently took to Reddit to see if he was in the wrong for him and his wife bailing on their 22-year-old niece's wedding. He sets the scene with the following:

"The wedding was on Saturday. Catholic ceremony in a church that was at 3:30 PM. The reception area was at a brewery about 15 minutes from the church. The reception was set to start at 5. Maybe this was stupid on the venue people, but they wouldn’t open the bar or bring around the appetizers until the bride and groom arrived."

So if you're thinking, "So the bride and groom got drunk at a brewery? Big whoop!" hang on just a second. Because apparently, the bride, groom, and the wedding party, described as "four sorority sisters and fraternity brothers on each side," took a separate limo to the brewery venue. And, wanting alcohol, they left their 150 guests waiting back at the brewery while they drove around looking for a liquor store, never bothering to inform their guests of the delay.

"The wedding coordinator was getting pissed as it’s now 5:45 and no wedding party. We are all just standing around with no food or drinks," the poster wrote. Eventually, someone was able to get in touch with the maid of honor, who explained the delay. "At around 6, the MOH said they should be arriving in the next 20 minutes."

The poster got pissed that the guests were all left standing around with no food or drink while these young kids had decided to pregame before their wedding reception. Though his brother, the father of the bride, insisted on letting the kids have their fun, the poster ultimately decided that he and his wife would leave and take their check with them.

The young bride later called to apologize, but it was a false apology: she was really only angling to get that check. When the uncle refused to give it, she called him "an a******."

Now, for our money, we think this uncle should absolutely keep his money. If not because of the rudeness of leaving guests stranded and starving, then just because this girl thought she needed to stop at a liquor store to get drunk when their reception was being held at a literal brewery. She's probably not going to wind up making good decisions with that money anyway.
