Of the many celebrities who have graced us with their presence at the Grammy Awards tonight, I am sad to report that Ms. Robyn Rihanna Fenty is not one of them. Despite being a nine-time Grammy Award winner, Rihanna has decided sit out the ceremony this time around, which has left her adoring fans across the globe wondering: WHY?

Welp, the likeliest reason why Rihanna didn’t show up to the Grammys this year is because she hasn’t released any songs recently and has nothing music-related to promote. If my “days since Anti was released” tracker is correct, it’s been approximately 1,873 long days and nights—aka FIVE PLUS YEARS—since Rihanna has given us a body of work. The silver lining though? Rih has consistently promised us that R9 will come out...eventually.

“I am always working on music, and when I am ready to put [the album] out in the way that I feel fit, it’s gonna come out. And you’re not going to be disappointed when it happens. It’s going to be worth it,” Rih told Entertainment Tonight back in July. “I’m not just gonna put it out just because people are waiting. It’s taken this long—I’m gonna make it worth it.”

And for the record, Rih is busy at work expanding her namesake empires, specifically Savage x Fenty.

The lingerie brand is absolutely thriving in the WFH era, and investors at LMVH seem to agree, if their recent $115 million gift in funding is any indicator. Sorry, Rihanna Navy—maybe our favorite Bad Gal will return to the Grammys in 2022.
