Hello! Good evening! It is Grammys night and Kanye West did not show up, which is weird considering he is a musical artist who usually is awarded for, like, making music. Here's why that probably happened.

He wasn't nominated in a major category.

When it comes to award shows, you usually only get invited if you're actually nominated for something, or famous enough that nobody cares. Kanye released one album that was a contender for Grammy Awards, ye, which came out in the summer of 2018. It wasn't nominated for anything (basically, it got snubbed).

However, Kanye himself was nominated for Producer of the Year (non-classical). That means he was probably invited to the show. But! That still isn't one of the major awards, and the presentation of that award isn't usually televised. In summation, no screen time = no Kanye. maybe. FYI, he didn't end up winning that award.

He hasn't attended the last three years.

Aside from the fact that he wasn't up for anything big, Kanye actually hasn't attended the Grammys since 2015. More on that in a second. Here's a pic of the last time he graced the show with his presence.

He's spoken out against the show before.

Alright, we're about to go deep in the archives of Kanye to talk about his long-standing issues with the show.

Back in 2014, he spoke out against the show after My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne were both snubbed from the Album of the Year nomination in 2012. "Since when was making art about getting rich? … Remind me again why we in this sh*t? Remind me again why the Grammys [can] suck my d*ck,” he said during a concert.

And then in 2015, Kanye showed up to the show but was pissed that Beck beat Beyoncé for Album of the Year.

He spoke to E! afterward and said the following: "The Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We aren’t going to play with them no more. Beck needs to respect artistry, he should have given his award to Beyoncé."

In 2017, he skipped the show in solidarity with Frank Ocean, who chose not to submit his album for consideration.

In conclusion...

So basically, it's not super shocking that Kanye's a no-show this year.
