If you were hoping to catch your favorite boy band at the 2019 MTV VMAs, you're out of luck. BTS decided to skip out on this year's show, but it's not totally surprising. The boys are currently on an extended break from the limelight, so it makes sense that they wouldn't want to show up at a huge event like the MTV VMAs. BTS is nominated for four awards and have already won one for the controversial VMA "Best K-Pop" category. This is their first VMA win ever and it would have been amazing to watch the band accept their award live.

But the boys have been working really hard, so it's totally reasonable for them to take their well-deserved break. BTS's management company, Big Hit Entertainment, announced the K-pop band would be taking a hiatus via an official statement.

The company asked BTS fans to respect the boys' privacy during their time of rest and relaxation. The statement also said the boys would be taking time to "enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s."

BTS's VMA nominations weren't without controversy. Fans thought that MTV's new "Best K-pop" category was a way to justify shutting the boy band out of the award show's biggest categories.

But the boys' presence is felt even amidst their long break. BTS's new docu-series Bring the Soul is set to premiere on Aug 27, so for now that's all the ARMY is focused on. There's no word on when BTS will make their official comeback, but we're hoping it's soon.
