2022 is coming to a close, but there are still a few more big movies coming out just before we turn the page to 2023. One of these is Babylon, the latest movie from La La Land, First Man, and Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. The film is about 1920s Hollywood during the switch from silent films to talkies, and it stars Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, and Diego Calva.

Judging by the reviews of the film and the somewhat overwhelming trailer, it looks like Babylon is a pretty intense experience. And at three hours and eight minutes, it’s long too. If you’re wondering whether you want to check out Babylon in the theater or if it’s possible to watch at home and spend those three hours on your own sofa with your own snacks, here’s what you need to know.

Can I watch Babylon in theaters?

Can I watch Babylon at home?

This is where things get a little more complicated. While you will certainly be able to watch Babylon at home eventually, what “eventually” means is unclear.

Babylon is being released by Paramount Pictures, so it will most likely stream on Paramount+. Often, movies hit Paramount+ 45 days after their theatrical release. (For example, this was the case with two other movies in 2022, The Lost City and Smile.)

But it’s not a hard-and-fast rule. Top Gun: Maverick was released by Paramount on May 27 and did not hit Paramount+ until December 22. Top Gun: Maverick’s massive box-office success obviously played a role—it’s the highest-grossing movie of the year, after all. Gotta keep that in theaters!

This is all to say that Babylon could be streaming on Paramount+ on February 6…but it might be longer than that. It may, however, be available on demand before it streams and you’ll be able to pay a fee to rent or buy the film on the service of your choice, so keep checking if you want to watch it online.
