Here's who we think should star in a 'Glee' reboot in 2024
It’s been nearly a decade since Glee aired its finale, and its cultural impact is still being felt.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk talked about the possibility of bringing the show back, and what he thinks it would look like in 2024.
“I’m sure everything is always on the table. But is there a way to tell that story in a more modern way?” Falchuk said. “So much of what Glee was about was really this transition from an old way of looking at representation to a new way. I’d never say no, but I wonder what the point would be – except it’d be a moneymaker.”
So, who would play the new, new, new New Directions? We’ve got some ideas!
The New Rachel - Halle Bailey
Rachel is the student who is destined to be a star. She’s the hardest worker and has the biggest voice. Halle Bailey, who starred as Ariel in the recent live-action The Little Mermaid, is a perfect singer and performer to fill the role.
The New Finn - Joshua Bassett
On High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Joshua Bassett was basically a puppy dog who was just trying his best. That’s what we need from a new Finn.
The New Kurt - Luke Islam
Luke Islam was one of our favorite parts of Theater Camp, and we’d love to see him take a bigger role as Kurt, Rachel’s GBF and the club’s gay culture expert.
The New Blaine - Ari Notartomaso
A trans masc Blaine? We’d love to see it! Ari Notartomaso was incredible in the short-lived Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, and we think they’d be great as the new love interest for the new Kurt!
The New Santana - Reneé Rapp
The power Rapp has over Gen Z lesbians and sapphics cannot be overstated. Santana was the bossest gay bitch at William McKinley High, and Rapp is perfect for the role.
The New Brittany - Chrissy Chlapecka
TikTok’s favorite bimbo is the perfect replacement for Brittany S. Pierce, everyone’s favorite dumb blonde.
The New Quinn - Josie Totah
Totah was a part of the original Glee, but we’d really love to see her get to shine in the show now that she’s living her authentic life. She’d be perfect for popular girl Quinn.
The New Mercedes - Jaquel Spivey
A Strange Loop Tony-nominee and Mean Girls star Jaquel Spivey is the perfect diva to take the place of Mercedes Jones.
The New Tina - JoJo Siwa
JoJo Siwa’s a great dancer and Glee always needs some great dancers! She’d give us the great dance solos that Mike Chang and Tina gave us.
The New Mike - JD McCrary
JD McCrary was a standout in the live action The Lion King and in Netflix’s 2022 adaptation of the musical 13. He and JoJo Siwa would be terrific dancers together.
