Things we weren’t expecting in this, our year of the lord 2023? Top Gun: Maverick 🤝 the Academy Awards. But it’s looking that way after all, since the movie received a whole six Oscar nominations, including the coveted Best Picture. Unfortch, Tom Cruise did not fly his way (heh 😅) into an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, and people had feelings. All of this to say, you should probably watch the Top Gun sequel if you haven’t already.

Top Gun: Maverick grossed more than $700 million domestically and more than $1.4 billion worldwide. So, yeah: A lot of people saw it in theaters. But, hey, maybe you were busy spending all your money on the Downton Abbey movie, IDK!!! Either way, it’s not too late to catch up and watch Tom Cruise look incredibly cool in aviator sunglasses—you’re just probably going to have to do it on the small screen. And fortunately, there are several ways to watch Top Gun: Maverick depending on whose streaming log-ins you’re currently stealing.

The Free Option: PARAMOUNT+

If for some reason you have a Paramount+ account (lol), Top Gun: Maverick is actually right there and available to stream for no extra charge. And if you don’t have an account, you can always do the free trial to watch Top Gun: Maverick and then cancel it. Although let’s be honest. You will never remember to cancel it.

Watch on Paramount+

Less $ Options:

You can rent/buy Top Gun: Maverick on pretty much any streaming service, so take your pick. It’s just going to set you back $5.99.

A Word on Top Gun: Maverick’s Oscar Chances

Before the nominations were released, Variety had Top Gun: Maverick in its Best Picture nomination prediction list, and the outlet also anticipated the movie would be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, and Best Visual Effects. All of those nomination predications came true except Best Cinematography, and instead, the film got a nod in the Best Original Song category for the Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand.”

And finally, please be advised that the original Top Gun was nominated for multiple Academy Awards—and won one! The film got nom'd for Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Effects Editing, and it won for Best Original Song (Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away”). So there’s definitely an Oscar precedent here!

Point is: There’s a huge chance Top Gun could win at least one Oscar this year, meaning (1) the entire (extremely good looking) cast will likely be lurking on the red carpet and (2) you need to watch this movie. Happy viewing!
