Laura Dave's page-turner The Last Thing He Told Me was a runaway hit in 2021 and has sold two million copies in the U.S. alone. Along with her husband Josh Singer, Dave co-created the seven-part TV series adapted from her book.
Like the book, the series follows Hannah (played by Garner), whose charmed life is turned upside down when her husband, Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), disappears—but not before leaving a two-word note that reads, "Protect her," referring to his 16-year-old daughter, Bailey (Angourie Rice).
Hannah's relationship with her stepdaughter is tenuous at best, but the two must stick together to figure out Owen's secrets while a high-profile scandal involving his employer threatens to engulf them. Aisha Tyler takes on another key role from the book as Jules, a reporter and Hannah's long-time best friend.

The Last Thing He Told Me is not the first of Reese Witherspoon's book club picks to end up on Hello Sunshine's production docket—the media company had a hand in the 2020 Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere and also produced the 2022 studio film Where the Crawdads Sing. The first two episodes of “The Last Thing He Told Me” will be available to stream on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 14. After that, a new episode of the seven-part series will be released every Friday through May 19, 2023. Here's the full schedule:
