Here's How to Watch the 'Country Music' Documentary on PBS

If you want to learn more about Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, and more of the musical legends that helped shape the country world, then you’ll definitely want to tune in to Ken Burns’s new documentary, Country Music.

The long-awaited feature (it took eight years to make!) finally debuts starting on September 15, and you won’t want to miss a minute of the personal interviews and detailed look at the genre’s history that Ken and his filmmakers have compiled. But since it’s a little lengthy, you may have some confusion about when to watch. Let this serve as your ultimate viewing guide to the Country Music doc.

The 16-hour film is eight episodes long, and will air in two chunks of four episodes each, all on your local PBS channel. Confused? We’ll break it down for you:

  • Episodes 1-4 air Sunday, September 15-Wednesday, September 18 from 8-10 p.m. EST.

  • Episodes 5-8 air Sunday, September 22-Wednesday, September 25 from 8-10 p.m. EST.

If you can’t catch it in real time, then there are several ways you can see it online. You can stream Country Music on PBS.org, your local station website, and via the PBS Video app, which is available on iOS, Android, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Tizen, Apple TV, and Android TV. All of the first four episodes will be available to stream starting September 15, and the second 4 will go live on those devices on September 22.

You can also sign up for PBS Passport, which is available to those who donate approximately $60 a year to the network. Passport members will get access to all of the episodes starting on September 15.
