Here's How to Watch the Celebratory Summer Musical 'In The Heights'

Summer is here. The sunny days and upcoming vacations may have you ready to sing and dance...or just stay home and watch a new summer musical. And if you're a Hamilton fan, this one's definitely for you. Lin-Manuel Miranda's In The Heights is out, and anyone looking to watch star Anthony Ramos' performance has more than one way to watch the film.

An adaptation of Miranda's Tony-award winning Broadway musical, In The Heights follows Ramos' Usnavi, a New York bodega owner in Washington Heights who dreams of a better life. The movie is out on June 10, is rated PG-13, and can both be seen in theaters and streamed on HBO Max.

In a recent interview with Men's Health, Ramos says he actually bombed his first audition for the musical. Luckily, the second time around, Ramos and director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) had an instant connection. Miranda, co-creator and composer of the music, also played Usnavi in his Broadway production. He thought Ramos was a perfect fit for the role, posting a heartfelt Twitter thread on what it was like to see Ramos take on the lead character. He still features into the film, playing a supporting role as the character Piraguero.

Stream on HBO Max

What time will In The Heights release on HBO Max?

The musical should follow the same schedule as other HBO Max movies and show up on the platform at midnight on June 10, or 3am ET. The only film to differ from that schedule was Wonder Woman 1984, which dropped 10am PT Christmas morning.

If you want a taste before streaming, you can check out the first 8 minutes of In The Heights, which is the entirety of the musical's opening number. The clip introduces a singing Usnavi and the rest of the cast, including Broadway stars Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Gregory Diaz IV.
