Basically, the two main characters, Pádraic (Colin Farrell) and Colm (Brendan Gleeson), were lifelong BFFs until one day, Colm tells Pádraic, “I just don’t like you no more.” Ouch. Like, my feelings are hurt. Enter: two dudes navigating a devastating friendship breakup against a 1922 Irish island backdrop.
“For all the hilarity, all the awkwardness, all the f*cking dynamism of the macabre [director Martin McDonagh] presents in the writing,” Colin said to Deadline, “at its core, there is, honest to god, a very deep sweetness and tenderness and a real consideration for human beings and why we are the way we are.”
Plus! The Banshees of Inisherin has pretty much been leading the pack of awards season this year. At the 2023 Golden Globes, the film tallied up eight nominations and actually won Best Comedy or Musical Film, Best Screenplay, *and* Best Comedy Actor, which went to Colin (who may or may not have shot his shot at Ana de Armas, but I digress). When it came time for Oscar nominations, The Banshees of Inisherin got *another* eight nods, including the most coveted claim: Best Picture. Colin is up for Best Actor, while Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan are both in the running for Best Supporting Actor. TL;DR: You n-e-e-d to see this movie.
