“Creation is survival,” or so claims Christian Dior in the elegant new historical series The New Look, which chronicles the now-legendary designer’s rise alongside that of Coco Chanel’s during the Nazi occupation of Paris in World War II. In the events leading up to Dior’s debut of the series’ namesake—his 1947 “New Look” collection—both Dior (Ben Mendelsohn) and Chanel (Juliette Binoche) must face what the war has wrought in their separate but parallel careers, and what moral sacrifices they each made against their backdrop of ball gowns. As the series rolls out on Apple TV+, here’s when to tune in.
