Everyone knows that your life totally changes after having your first child. For Rebel Wilson, most of those changes have been overwhelmingly positive. "I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle," Rebel said of her daughter, Royce Lillian Elizabeth Wilson, in a birth announcement last November.

Still, she's honest about the not-so-shiny aspects of motherhood, too—especially when it comes to making time for yourself. "I can't just walk out of the house like and go to the gym," she tells Women's Health. "There's such a whole [ordeal] to get the stroller, and the baby bag, and to have all the things."

ICYMI, Rebel started hitting the gym a lot back in 2020, and, for a solid year or so, that was her whole thing. The actress was initially inspired to embark on what she later coined her "Year Of Health" after looking into fertility options, and being told a healthier lifestyle might increase her odds of becoming pregnant.

Rebel went on to smash her goals. She lost over 80 pounds, and her dream of becoming a mother was fulfilled in 2022, when she welcomed Royce via surrogacy. And, while lots of her daily choices and routines from her "Year of Health" became permanent lifestyle changes, the actress has adapted her health goals to meet her needs as a new mother.

And those healthier choices are more intuitive now. "That wasn't me before," Rebel says. "A lot of those healthy habits [I established in 2020] have now become common place for me," she says.

This summer, the actress sat down with Women's Health to discuss her favorite Mommy & Me workouts and everything that's been fueling her lately.

Her workouts have changed a lot since becoming a mom.

At the height of her "Year of Health," Rebel says that she was at the gym for "at least an hour every day, six days a week," but that wasn't really an option once Royce was in the picture. "When I was losing weight, I was doing quite aggressive workouts," Rebel tells WH. "With a baby, that's just an impossibility."

At the time, in 2020, the star worked closely with trainer Jono Castano to keep her fitness goals on track. She was very regimented about her training time, and often did intense cardio and strength workouts that included moves like tire flips and stair sprints. She also incorporated a lot of hiking into her daily workout routine, which is something thing that stuck post-baby.

She zeroes in on protein and portions.

Rebel has also totally reinvented her diet in the last few years, but she's not overly strict with herself. "I can't cut out carbs and sugary foods completely," she says. Instead, Rebel says she "drastically reduced" her portion sizes and concentrated on hunger-quenching proteins.

Her ideal daily menu includes a little bit of everything, making sure to load up on protein. In the mornings, Rebel loves to start her day with eggs and avocado toast. Sometimes, she'll switch it up and opt for a protein shake with berries or bananas. For lunch, Rebel typically sticks to a fresh salad with chicken. Dinner also varies, but the actress's go-to choices are grilled chicken, salmon, and other types of fish.

She still has a sweet tooth, which she indulges with Ben and Jerry's Phish Food ice cream and Klondike Bars as a treat from time to time. "I'm obsessed with Klondike bars," she says. "They're just a simple [treat]."

But you won't catch this star cutting out food groups or following a specific diet. "I think that's a positive, that I'm not too focused," she says. "I'm not on any particular diet or anything like that."

Walking is her secret workout sauce.

While at one point, Rebel was always hitting the gym, she's mostly focused on getting her daily steps in these days. "I went to this big health retreat in Austria, the biggest thing they said to me is get outside and just walk," she says.

Now, she walks whenever she can. The actress loves a good old fashioned hike because it allows her to bring her daughter along for the ride. For Rebel, her low-impact walking cardio usually takes place in the early morning or at sunset, with little Royce in tow. "[Walking] for me, is the best thing to burn unwanted body fat," she says.

When she's prepping for her walks, Rebel rarely leaves without a hat for sun protection "I love a New York Yankees baseball hat," she says. "Or one of those big brimmed hats with the string."

She blames her hat affinity and choice of walking time on her Australian roots. "I never want to be under direct sunlight, normally because [Australians] are conditioned to be like that because we're under a hole in the ozone," she explains.

Right now, Rebel is living near a river in Georgia, so she isn't as worried about ozone holes as she is about bug bites. Her go-to method for keeping bugs at bay is Zevo bug spray, a brand she's currently partnering with. She loves that the spray offers odorless and greaseless protection. Other essentials Rebel always has on deck during her walks with Royce include sunscreen, Wet Ones wipes, and water.

She incorporates Royce into her workouts.

While Rebel's favorite way to workout is by taking those long walks with Royce, she also incorporates her daughter into at-home workouts. Yes, like during her actual workout routines.

"I lift her up while squatting," the actress shares. "I'll do stretching on a mat and put Royce next to me."

Rebel definitely squeezed in lots of Vitamin D and extra squat reps this summer. Keep living your best life, Reb!
