Here's an opportunity for veterans to learn about Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture

Veterans and their families soon will have an opportunity to learn more about veteran programs by Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture.

CCUA will host its spring kickoff noon-3 p.m. April 23 at the Mark and Carol Stevenson Veterans Urban Farm at 1207 Smith St. in Columbia.

Those attending also will get a chance to see what CCUA has planned this season at the farm. Farm tours, children's activities, seeds and a meal will be provided free to veterans and their families. The event is open to the community.

The Veterans Urban Farm is a partnership of CCUA and the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital. The program was established in 2020 to serve Truman VA transitional work, recreational therapy and whole health program patients. More than 10,000 hours have gone into CCUA's veterans programming.

The farm site also includes the Warriors Garden of raised beds for those who may have mobility issues or other disabilities. That portion of the farm opened in October.
