Here's How Immortals Of Aveum's Sigils Work

Immortals of Aveum captured the attention of many when it was first shown off, and for good reason. It takes the classic first-person shooter formula and turns it on its head, swapping out guns for magic, channeled through special cuffs called Sigils.

Magic in the world of Aveum is separated into three different disciplines, each associated with a color. Blue magic is all about precise sharpshooting, Red magic is about quick, explosive bursts that deal huge damage at short range, and Green magic has you firing out magic missiles as quickly as possible. While most mages in Aveum only wield one color of magic, protagonist Jak is a special Triarch Magnus, capable of wielding all three.

As important as how they work is how they look, and the team behind Immortals of Aveum spent hours carefully detailing every single Sigil in the game, just like any other first-person shooter would have hours dedicated to crafting its firearms. Our video above lets you get a closer look at each of these Sigils, and how much handiwork is put into them.

As you’ll see, blue Sigils are elegantly and precisely crafted, made to look like a precision tool rather than an instrument of war, while red Sigils are harsh and jagged, like the rocky crag of a volcano, reflecting their explosive and unpredictable nature. Green Sigils are more closely attuned to nature, and take on more of an organic appearance, with curves like tree branches and vines making it look like it was grown rather than forged.

Sigils are made up of three main components: the base, the bezel, and a tip. The base attaches the Sigil to the arm of the mage, on the Sigil Plate, while the bezel holds the crystal through which the magic is channeled. The tip then focuses and directs the magic, letting you fire off spells and take down the nasty beasts and mages that roam the world of Aveum.
