Here's What House Beautiful Readers Really Bought in 2023
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links."
Now that 2023 is coming to an end, the House Beautiful shopping editors decided to step away from our online carts and do some reflecting, but not the kind of reflecting you may think. No, we looked back across the past year to find out what our beloved and loyal readers have purchased, and we were pretty surprised by the most-purchased products. Although the items varied, there was one common theme: cleaning appliances, specifically vacuum cleaners from Dysons to iRobot Roombas, were very popular with shoppers. Our readers spent 2023 making sure their floors sparkled from every angle, and we’re here for it.
Although vacuum cleaners were the overall trend, there were a few other goodies to take note of, so if you’re curious to know what your fellow readers are gravitating towards, keep reading. Plus, if you need to snag a last-minute gift or are in the mood to dip into your year-end bonus, this is a good place to gather some inspiration. Rest assured, all of the items below are home-centric, stylish, and, for the most part, pretty affordable, so if you don’t want to shell out the hundreds of dollars on the most popular Dyson model (on sale now!), worry not, there are plenty of cheaper options ahead.
Without further ado, we’re excited to share the most loved items of 2023. Happy shopping!
Cyclone V10 Animal Cordless Vacuum
"I can understand why this is the most purchased product of 2023. I have it and can confirm that it is incredible. For starters, it's pretty quiet, so you won't give yourself or the rest of your household a headache when operating it," explains Associate Shopping Editor Jessica Cherner. "It also comes with so many interchangeable attachments that are area-specific. There's one for furniture, hardwood floors, carpet, and more. There's even one for getting up hair that's really stuck in your rugs."
BVC11 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
We weren't joking when we said vacuum cleaners took up most of our list, but we're into it. This one comes with a few less bells and whistles, but it definitely gets the job done. Technically, it's battery-operated and the battery can be charged, meaning you're not tethered to an electrical outlet.
Roomba 692 Robot Vacuum
One of our personal favorites, the Roomba 692 doesn't even need you close by to do its job. Simply download the iRobot app, set your vacuum's program, and feel free to head out for the day. But that's not even the coolest part. It will run automatically for 90 minutes before zooming back to its docking port and charging itself.
Robot Vacuum Cleaner
This one is pretty similar to the previous one, but it uses lidar navigation, which is pretty high-tech. It basically uses lights in the room to measure distance and, like the previous pick, it also connects to an app on your phone.
Athena Bouclé Accent Chair
Available in five colors, including this moody moss hue, the Athena chair is upholstered in a trendy bouclé fabric that adds a touch of warmth and coziness to its otherwise structural shape. Because it's on the shorter side, we highly recommend using this as an accent versus a dining chair.
Vertex Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum
This is the last vacuum on our list, but it's just as worthy of the opportunity to clean your home. It's from a well-loved brand that's been around since the early 1990s and, with the exception of more contemporary adaptations, hasn't changed a whole lot. This lightweight vacuum is one of Shark's most popular models because it's available in two options: one that runs for an hour and one that runs for two. If you have a bigger house, you may want to consider going with the second.
Madison Snowflake Medallion Rug
If you have a relatively beige space that's looking a bit too much like a waiting room, we have a simple solution. Swap out your rug and replace it with this one. It's quiet in all the right ways, but not so subtle that it blends in with the rest of your space.
Halloween Non-Scratch Scrubbers
We were a bit surprised that these Halloween-themed sponges were one of the 15 most-purchased items in 2023, but here we are. Regardless of the spooky shapes, these Scrub Daddies are definitely the best thing to remove even the most caked on messes.
Twin XL Sheet Set
It should come as no surprise that these sold out numerous times as the school year neared. They're basic sheets, but oh-so-soft. If you have a college student, they'll never sleep better than they will on these.
Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree
Even though the leaves look too perfect to be real, this tree is the real thing. An indoor plant is perhaps the easiest way to add a touch of color to your space without having to do a whole lot. Plus, it makes for a great gift for anyone in your life.
Classic Mattress
Our editors could go on and on about how amazing Saatva mattresses are and our readers agree. The brand's classic mattress is a favorite because it's totally customizable (choose your own softness and thickness) and you can opt for any of the sizes, from twin to California split king. Plus, the brand is known for its stellar sales so you can feel extra good about your investment.
Christmas Tree Decoration Kit
Like the Halloween-themed sponges, this holiday-centric kit was pretty popular in 2023. Technically, it's a toy meant for kids, but we can guarantee that the adults at the Christmas celebration will love it just as much.
Reversible Sleeper Sectional Sofa
Not only does this linen-covered couch pull out into a full sleeper sofa, but the chaise also reveals some pretty sizable storage, so if you like to play host to your out-of-town crew, this is the perfect find. Did we mention it's more than $500 off?
Mini Stoneware Round Cocotte
These tiny Le Creuset cocettes are so adorable that we're tempted to buy more than one. Can you imagine a cuter kitchen gift than this enameled masterpiece? We think not.
AirPods Max Wireless Over-Ear Headphones
Available in five colors, including this minty green, Apple's newest set of AirPods are well worth the price. They offer the best sound quality over any of Apple's other audio products.
